[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province is expanding its service that notifies illegal parking and stopping CCTV enforcement in advance via mobile phone text messages.
On the 27th, Seongnam City announced that it will change the illegal parking and stopping CCTV enforcement notification service, which previously sent 'one message per vehicle per day,' to a 'real-time notification each time the vehicle enters the enforcement zone.'
This measure aims to reduce cases where drivers who are unaware of enforcement areas miss the text messages or suffer due to sending errors.
Currently, 274,632 people have applied for the illegal parking and stopping enforcement advance notification service.
If a vehicle is parked in enforcement zones covered by 201 CCTVs installed in traffic-congested areas such as the entrance to Moran Market on Seongnam-daero or by 11 mobile CCTV vehicles, a notification is sent via mobile phone text message.
However, absolute prohibition zones such as crosswalks, fire hydrants, bus stops, and children protection zones, as well as on-site enforcement zones, are excluded from the text notification service.
A city official explained, "The illegal parking and stopping enforcement advance notification service encourages voluntary vehicle movement, helping smooth traffic flow and reducing complaints caused by fines."
Last year, Seongnam City sent 330,000 illegal parking and stopping enforcement notification texts, and 70% (230,000 cases) of the vehicles moved voluntarily.
To receive parking and stopping enforcement notifications, visit the Seongnam City website and enter the vehicle number, signature, and personal mobile phone number.
