[Asia Economy Reporter Onyu Lim] Seoul City announced on the 27th that it will carry out an urban regeneration project to transform the area around the entrance to Bukhansan in Ui-dong, Gangbuk-gu, into a specialized street themed around leisure culture and independence history.
The target area is a 550m section along Samyang-ro 173-gil, the entrance road from Bukhansan Ui Station on the Ui-Sinseol Line to Bukhansan.
The 250m section from Bukhansan Ui Station to Black Yak Club will become the "Leisure Culture Street," and the 300m section from Black Yak Club to Bonghwanggak will become the "Independence History Street."
The Leisure Culture Street will feature leisure activity hubs for visitors to use, including a resort and family camping site scheduled to open within the year.
The Independence History Street will be developed by highlighting the characteristics of historically significant sites such as Bonghwanggak, established by Cheondogyo leader Son Byeong-hui for educating future generations, the Bukhansan Ui Gugok, a cultural heritage site from the Joseon Dynasty, and the Baegundae rock inscriptions.
The city plans to collect opinions until the end of this year, complete the comprehensive development plan and design, and begin construction around March next year.
This specialized street development is one of the core projects of the "April 19 Intersection Area Urban Regeneration Activation Plan" prepared and underway by Seoul City.
