Dongjak-gu to Promote Disclosure of List of High-Amount and Habitual Tax Delinquents

Conducted on 98 Delinquents with Over 10 Million KRW in Local Tax Arrears for More Than One Year... Final Disclosure in November After Two Local Tax Deliberation Committee Reviews and Submission of Explanation Materials

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) is promoting the "2021 List Disclosure of High-Amount and Habitual Tax Delinquents" to encourage voluntary payment of overdue taxes and to realize a culture of sincere tax payment.

The disclosure of the list of high-amount and habitual local tax delinquents is a system implemented under the Local Tax Collection Act to raise awareness about tax payment and to ensure fairness with sincere taxpayers.

The district will complete a living condition survey, including actual residence and property status, for 98 delinquents who have overdue taxes exceeding 10 million KRW for more than one year as of January 1, 2021, by the end of this month.

In February, the Local Tax Deliberation Committee will conduct the first review to decide the criteria for list disclosure and the subjects to be disclosed, followed by a prior announcement.

From March to August, delinquents will be given six months to provide explanations, pay the overdue taxes in full or in installments, or present reasons for exclusion from the list disclosure such as death or liquidation completion (for corporations).

The district will then hold a second Local Tax Deliberation Committee meeting to finalize the list of subjects for disclosure in November.

Meanwhile, last year, the district finalized the disclosure of 84 high-amount and habitual delinquents and collected 124 million KRW.

Im Jongyeol, head of the Collection Division, said, "For delinquents confirmed for list disclosure, we will do our best to realize tax justice through various administrative sanctions such as on-site investigations and travel bans."
