[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] In Gwangju Metropolitan City, one person infected with COVID-19 has died, and seven new COVID-19 cases have been confirmed, including four related to TCS Ace International School.
According to Gwangju City on the 26th, as of 2 p.m. that day, seven people tested positive and were classified as Gwangju cases 1524 to 1530.
Among them, four people (Gwangju cases 1524, 1525, 1527, and 1528) are confirmed cases related to TCS International School, bringing the cumulative total to 35.
Earlier, quarantine authorities completed comprehensive testing targeting Gwangju Bitnaeri Church located in the same building as TCS International School, as well as nearby daycare centers and kindergartens.
As a result of the tests, no confirmed cases were found in the kindergarten, but five people, including teachers, at a daycare center operated by members of Gwangju Bitnaeri Church tested positive, confirming secondary infections.
The quarantine authorities plan to identify additional unauthorized educational facilities similar to TCS International School and investigate whether there was any interaction among these facilities to clarify their connections.
Among the three other newly added confirmed cases that day, Gwangju case 1526's infection route has not yet been identified, while Gwangju cases 1529 and 1530 were investigated to be related to Gwangju cases 1416 and 1516, respectively.
One of the existing confirmed cases died from COVID-19 the previous day. Gwangju case 1395, known as a dialysis patient at the Central Hospital, was transferred to Chonnam National University Hospital and died while receiving treatment. The cumulative death toll in the Gwangju area has risen to 17.
