People Power Party and People Party Youth Committees "Regime Change Must Be Achieved Through Opposition Unification"

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] On the 26th, the People Power Party Central Youth Committee and the People Party National Youth Committee jointly proposed to the opposition coalition candidates for the Seoul and Busan mayoral elections, "Let's achieve regime change through opposition unification."

On the same day, the two committees held a press conference in front of the National Assembly main building and stated, "The youth members of the People Power Party and the People Party have come together here sharing a sense of crisis that the incompetent ruling party forces might have an opportunity to extend their regime."

They continued, "Re-electing the Seoul and Busan mayors affiliated with the ruling party, stained by immorality and irresponsibility, will be the first step to restoring the sustainability of a wounded Republic of Korea," adding, "If the opposition is divided again, we will never be able to assert the legitimacy of regime change to the people."

They also emphasized the need to put aside all vested interests and accept opposition unification. The committees said, "Only when fairness and mutual respect are prerequisites in the unification process can we form a true one team that carries the hope of regime change," urging, "Please show a stance that moves toward the positive rather than the negative, and the future rather than the past."
