"Have You Seen Apartments That Provide Jobs?"...'NugunaJip' Project, a New Concept Job Creation Turning Housing into Industry

Recently, due to COVID-19, people are spending more time at home. As a result, remote work and the untact economy are rapidly becoming a reality. Along with these changes, residential spaces are also finding new meanings.

In the past, residential spaces were simply used for lodging and meals, but in the future, they can also be utilized as spaces for value creation through labor, such as remote work. In particular, new residential spaces are expected to emerge by transforming household chores into industries that create jobs.

At the center of this is the 'NugunaJip' project. NugunaJip is a social cooperative rental housing system that allows anyone to live in an apartment for 8 years by paying only 10% of the housing price. The 10% of the housing price refers to 10% of the apartment’s initial supply price, which is paid by individuals who join as cooperative members.

The reason NugunaJip is receiving the most attention is because it is an "apartment that provides jobs." NugunaJip operates a 'Synergy Center' within the apartment. The Synergy Center is a collaborative consumption and production center utilizing underground and common spaces, where any apartment resident can obtain a job.

At the Synergy Center, household chores are transformed into industries to provide jobs for residents. The jobs offered are diverse, including household-type jobs necessary for daily life, educational jobs, caregiving jobs, professional jobs, and autonomous community jobs.

Household-type jobs include childcare, nursing, and caregiving; educational jobs include youth academic achievement education, various vocational training, and hobby instruction. Caregiving jobs cover childcare, nursing, and caregiving tasks requiring assistance. Professional jobs include programming, maintenance, design, medical services, psychological counseling, and security systems. Autonomous community jobs involve community self-governance administration, welfare, and management.

In particular, after working through the jobs provided by the Synergy Center, residents can pay their housing and management fees with accumulated points. Synergy Center points can be earned not only by working but also through consumption within the Synergy Center, with a 10% accumulation rate.

Additionally, the Synergy Center of NugunaJip allows residents to use personal knowledge and information, as well as infrequently used daily necessities and books, as communal assets through a sharing system called KISS. This resident sharing service is available to all residents.

An official stated, “NugunaJip is gaining attention as a new concept job creation by transforming household chores into industries. Jobs are available to everyone, including youth, housewives, middle-aged, and senior citizens,” adding, “Through this, it will be possible to establish safety nets for life, livelihood, and economy.”
