[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] Lee Jae-yong, Vice Chairman of Samsung Electronics, sent a letter from prison to Samsung employees containing 'apologies, gratitude, and requests.' The letter, sent through his lawyer, was posted on the company's internal bulletin board on the 26th by Kim Ki-nam, CEO of Samsung Electronics.
Lee began by saying, "I am very sorry to cause you worry again due to my shortcomings," and added, "I feel truly apologetic for burdening you with such a heavy load."
He continued, "Over the past several years, Samsung has faced many difficult circumstances both internally and externally," and expressed his gratitude by saying, "However, you have quietly worked and steadfastly protected Samsung."
He then requested the employees, "As you have done so far, I ask you to continue to unite with unwavering resolve," and emphasized, "Regardless of my situation, Samsung must continue on the path it must take."
He also stressed, "We must keep the promises already made to the public," and added, "We must remain faithful to the company's fundamental duties of investment and job creation. Furthermore, Samsung must be reborn as a company that fulfills its social responsibilities."
Lee concluded by saying, "I will reflect on myself humbly and with greater self-restraint," and added, "I will make sure that this time is not wasted. Together with you, I will definitely create a new Samsung."
