[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Honam University has decided to freeze tuition fees by department for the 2021 academic year and also reduce the admission fee.
Honam University recently held a tuition review committee meeting and announced on the 25th that it decided to freeze tuition fees by department this year and further reduce the freshman admission fee by 20% for the fourth consecutive year.
Since 2012, Honam University has either reduced or frozen tuition fees for over ten years. Starting with a 20% reduction in the admission fee for the 2018 academic year, the university has been gradually reducing the admission fee by 20% annually until 2021 to ease the financial burden on students and their parents.
Park Sang-chul, President of Honam University, said, "Although prolonged reductions and freezes of tuition fees by department are expected to cause difficulties in university financial management, we will overcome these challenges through efficient budget execution, expansion of government financial support projects, and activation of university development funds." He added, "We will continue to expand the scholarship system."
Honam University, the first domestic university to declare itself an ‘AI Specialized University’ and to promote AI convergence talent development for all students through curriculum innovation, is nurturing the ‘Next Champions’ who will lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution era in fields such as artificial intelligence and big data, future automobiles, new energy industries, and cultural contents.
