"No Secondary Harm to Victims... Must Do Our Best to Advocate for Women's Rights"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] On the 25th, the People’s Party demanded self-reflection from the Justice Party regarding the resignation of Justice Party leader Kim Jong-cheol due to sexual harassment. The People’s Party urged the eradication of sexual harassment incidents involving hierarchical power.
On the 25th, Shin Nari, deputy spokesperson of the People’s Party, commented on Kim’s resignation over sexually harassing Justice Party lawmaker Jang Hye-young, saying, "The Justice Party, which has advocated for women’s rights and gender equality, should properly recognize the weight of its words and actions, reflect on itself, and take this as an opportunity to recall the reason for the party’s existence."
Deputy spokesperson Shin said, "Considering that one of the core values the Justice Party pursues is women’s rights, the incident committed by the party leader is an extremely shocking situation. As a woman living in the same era and a member of society, I deeply empathize with lawmaker Jang, who silently endured the pain alone until she made her victimization public. Our society must no longer tolerate sexual crimes."
She continued, "It must never happen that the victim, lawmaker Jang, becomes subject to secondary harm. I hope she quickly recovers her composure and, as a courageous politician, does her utmost to further represent women’s rights."
