[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Park Beom-gye, the nominee for Minister of Justice (photo), said regarding the allegations of morality, "I can explain well."
On the 25th, as Park moved to the confirmation hearing venue, he told reporters, "I will approach the hearing with a humble attitude," and said this. Regarding the morality-related allegations such as false address registration, assault, and conflict of interest, he briefly replied, "I can explain well," and about the opposition party's demand for voluntary withdrawal, he refrained from commenting, saying, "Please wait for the hearing results." He did not answer questions from the press related to the 'illegal nomination donation' and moved to the hearing venue.
Currently, the People Power Party is raising allegations against Park Beom-gye, the nominee for Minister of Justice, including ▲false address registration allegations ▲conflict of interest allegations related to the law firm 'Myeonggyeong' ▲intentional underreporting of assets allegations ▲assault allegations against judicial exam candidates ▲and nomination donation during the 2018 local elections.
In particular, regarding the assault allegations, it was raised that on the night of November 23, 2016, he grabbed the collars of judicial exam candidates who came to appeal for the retention of the judicial exam, among other assaults. On April 26, 2019, during a scuffle between ruling and opposition parties over designating the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Agency (PCA) establishment law and others as fast-track bills, he assaulted a member and an associate of the Liberty Korea Party (now People Power Party), and the related case trial is ongoing.
In response, the People Power Party held its own 'National Participation Confirmation Hearing' at the National Assembly a day before the hearing (on the 24th), claiming that "the nominee should voluntarily withdraw, or President Moon Jae-in should withdraw the nomination."
