[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gangwon Province will conduct special hygiene inspections on food manufacturing and sales establishments in preparation for the Lunar New Year holiday.

Gangwon Province announced on the 24th, "From the 25th to the 29th, a joint hygiene inspection team consisting of food hygiene inspectors and consumer food hygiene inspectors from the city and county will be formed to inspect 105 food service establishments."

The inspection targets include food manufacturers producing popular Lunar New Year foods such as rice cakes, dumplings, and edible oils, as well as health functional food sales businesses and food service establishments handling ancestral ritual foods.

Particular focus will be placed on unauthorized or unreported manufacturing and sales activities, use or sale of expired products, and unsanitary handling of food. Additionally, through sampling and testing, inspections for food poisoning bacteria and standard compliance will be conducted.

Furthermore, as food purchases through online channels are expected to increase, non-face-to-face sampling inspections of online shopping malls will be conducted concurrently.

To enhance the effectiveness of the inspections, minor issues will be corrected on-site, while intentional and habitual violations will be subject to strong administrative measures and criminal prosecution.
