[Asia Economy Reporter La Youngcheol] A high pathogenic avian influenza (AI) case has been confirmed at a laying hen farm in Icheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, prompting culling operations at the affected farm.

According to the city quarantine authorities on the 23rd, culling began this morning for 478,000 laying hens at Farm A located in Janghowon-eup.

Additionally, 8,000 laying hens at another farm within a 3 km radius of Farm A and 1,000 pheasants at a pheasant farm will also be culled preventively.

The city quarantine authorities have restricted movement for 580,000 poultry across 12 farms within a 10 km radius. In the Icheon area, approximately 2.38 million poultry are raised across 74 farms.

The city quarantine authorities are conducting intensive disinfection around poultry farms and migratory bird habitats such as Cheongmicheon, and are strengthening farm surveillance.
