[Asia Economy Reporter Hana Na] A fire of unknown origin broke out in a Kona EV electric vehicle that was charging in Daegu, prompting the fire authorities to extinguish it.
At around 4:11 PM on the 23rd, a fire of unknown origin occurred in a Kona EV that was charging at a public electric vehicle charger installed at a taxi company in Yucheon-dong, Dalseo-gu, Daegu. The vehicle is known to be owned by a resident, and the police and fire authorities plan to investigate the cause of the fire.
A fire official stated around 5 PM that day, "The battery area under the electric vehicle is dangerous, so the fire has not been completely extinguished yet."
Meanwhile, the Kona EV electric vehicle has experienced about 10 fires domestically and internationally involving the same model from July last year until last month, leading owners to file a class-action lawsuit.
Hyundai Motor Company pointed to the battery as the cause of the fires and announced that recalls are underway in South Korea, the United States, Europe, China, and other regions.
