[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Last summer, local governments that suffered damage due to excessive discharge from Hapcheon Dam and Namgang Dam during heavy rains launched an investigation to determine the cause of the flood damage.

On the 22nd, Hapcheon-gun announced that it held the ‘Hapcheon-Namgang Dam Downstream Flood Damage Cause Investigation Service Kick-off Meeting’ at the county council, attended by resident representatives from Jinju-si, Sacheon-si, and Hapcheon-gun, external experts recommended by the government and local governments, and local government officials.

The meeting was organized to review the service kick-off report, including explanations from the service company about data collection and analysis methods for the flood damage cause investigation, and to suggest future directions.

The investigation service will be conducted over six months from the start date. It will comprehensively analyze the flood damage status by dam and river, floodgate operation situations, and causes of damage from floods that occurred last August in Hwanggang, Namgang, Geumgang, and Seomjingang, aiming to identify fundamental improvement measures.

Moon Jun-hee, the mayor of Hapcheon-gun, said, “I hope that through thorough investigations and active discussions during the investigation period, the causes of the damage will be identified as soon as possible so that the affected farmers can regain their smiles.”
