[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The People Power Party has urged the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Agency (Gong-su-cheo) to maintain political neutrality and conduct investigations without any sacred cows as it launches.
On the 21st, Kim Ye-ryeong, spokesperson for the People Power Party, emphasized in a statement, "For Gong-su-cheo to gain public trust, political neutrality, investigations without sacred cows, and the commitment of the head of Gong-su-cheo to these principles are of utmost importance."

He said, "Kim Jin-wook, the head of Gong-su-cheo, was appointed as the first head despite various suspicions such as insider stock trading, false address registration, and irregular parental leave, as well as opposition party's disqualification opinions," adding, "Although Gong-su-cheo was launched with the purpose of checking the prosecution and distributing prosecution rights, since the opposition party's veto power was even removed during the candidate recommendation process, the controversy over political neutrality remains alive."
Regarding this, Spokesperson Kim stated, "At the confirmation hearing, Director Kim declared that he would select cases based on facts and law without political considerations and would listen to public opinion if necessary during the process," and "Above all, he promised the public to make fair appointments without political bias."
Spokesperson Kim said, "The People Power Party will watch with the public to ensure that Gong-su-cheo does not become a political shield that panders to power or a protector of the regime," and added, "We sincerely hope that the head of Gong-su-cheo keeps his promise to be 'on the side of the people, not the ruling or opposition parties.'"
