[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Sangju City and Sangju City Council held an emergency meeting at the city council on the 18th to discuss measures to prevent COVID-19 and protect small business owners, as well as ways to revitalize the local economy, the city announced on the 21st.
The city exchanged opinions on the current status of COVID-19 prevention measures and future plans, along with the prevention guidelines related to the extension of social distancing measures until the 31st.
Subsequently, to prepare for the prolonged COVID-19 situation, a task force led by the vice mayor was formed, and a 'Comprehensive Plan for Protecting Small Business Owners and Revitalizing the Local Economy' was established to simultaneously address the prevention of COVID-19 spread and the recovery of the stagnant economy.
They decided to actively promote a total of 36 detailed plans across six major areas, including support for small and medium-sized enterprises and small business owners facing closure due to economic recession, financial and tax support, consumption promotion projects to stimulate domestic demand, job support projects to alleviate employment instability, and public administration sectors.
At the meeting, Council Chairman Jeong Jae-hyun urged, "Given the severe difficulties faced by the region, including small business owners, due to the prolonged economic downturn caused by COVID-19, please devote all efforts to supporting small business owners and vulnerable groups who are struggling."
Mayor Kang Young-seok stated, "We are striving to overcome the unprecedented social and economic turmoil caused by COVID-19 at an early stage," adding, "We will do our best to alleviate the suffering of small business owners facing serious management difficulties by actively reviewing the opinions gathered through the meeting and reflecting them in policies."
