[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Gyeongju City announced on the 21st that it has created a sculpture modeled after the National Treasure No. 189 'Cheonmachong Gwanmo' excavated from the Silla-era tomb Cheonmachong and installed it in Palwoojung Park, Hwang-o-dong.

The Cheonmachong Gwanmo sculpture is a work inspired by the Silla official hat from 1,500 years ago, reexamining the status and excellence of the brilliant metal crafts of the Silla period. It was produced over five months starting from September last year and was recently unveiled.

This project, promoted by Gyeongju City and the Gyeongju Cultural Foundation, was part of a public art project aimed at supporting creative activities for local artists who have been constrained by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and providing opportunities for cultural enjoyment to citizens and tourists.

The sculpture measures 6.6 meters in height and 4.2 meters in width. Inside the sculpture, 14 paintings themed on Silla stories are also exhibited. Near Palwoojung Park, on the stone wall path of Daereungwon, 40 ceramic tile works by 20 local artists inspired by Silla-era relics and artifacts are displayed, attracting even greater popularity.

A Gyeongju City official expressed expectations, saying, "By bringing the precious and beautiful relics and cultural heritage of the thousand-year-old Silla outdoors instead of indoors, we can re-highlight their excellence and value, providing tourists with another attraction."

Meanwhile, the 'Cheonmachong Gwanmo,' designated as National Treasure No. 189 on December 7, 1978, is characterized by its conical shape resembling a palm-pressed hat from the Silla period, made by combining thin gold plates engraved with multiple patterns.
