[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] The police have taken charge of the investigation into Nam In-soon, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, and Kim Young-soon, the executive director of the Korean Women's Associations United, who are suspected of having conveyed the planned sexual harassment accusation against the late former Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon.
On the 21st, the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office stated, "This case falls outside the scope of crimes for which prosecutors can initiate investigations under the revised law," and "the case has been transferred to the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul, which has jurisdiction over the suspect's residence and the crime scene."
Earlier, on the 1st, the Association of Judicial Examination Preparatory Students (Sajunmo) filed a complaint with the Supreme Prosecutors' Office against Nam and Kim, accusing them of leaking the accusation and defaming the sexual harassment victim.
The Supreme Prosecutors' Office transferred the case to the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office, which then transferred it to the Southern District Prosecutors' Office on the 19th.
The Criminal Division 2 of the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Chang-soo) announced on December 30 last year that the fact that the sexual harassment victim was planning to accuse former Mayor Park was conveyed to him through Kim Young-soon, Nam In-soon, and Lim Soon-young, the gender advisor to the Seoul Mayor.
In response, the Korean Women's Associations United issued an apology on the same day and suspended Kim from her duties, while Nam explained that although she did make an inquiry call to Advisor Lim, she did not leak the accusation.
