Gyeongju City to Open 'Gangbyeon-ro' Connecting Gyeongju IC to Terminal This Fall... 7 Months Ahead of Schedule

Traffic Diversion Effect Toward Hwangridan-gil and Daereungwon Area

Gyeongju City to Open 'Gangbyeon-ro' Connecting Gyeongju IC to Terminal This Fall... 7 Months Ahead of Schedule The riverside road connecting Gyeongju IC to the terminal is 70% complete, with early opening scheduled for the end of October.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Dong-wook] The riverside road directly connecting Gyeongju IC and the terminal will be opened early by the end of October.

Once this road opens, it will be possible to travel directly from Gyeongju IC to the terminal without passing through 'Geumseong Samgeori' or 'Hwangnam Community Center Intersection,' which is expected to help disperse traffic and alleviate inconveniences for public transportation users.

According to Gyeongju City on the 20th, the 2.24 km section of the riverside road connecting 'Najunggyo,' the first bridge after exiting Gyeongju IC, and 'Cheomseong-ro' in front of Silla Elementary School near the express and intercity bus terminal will open by the end of October. With the opening of this road, travel time between Gyeongju IC and the terminal will be reduced by up to 30 minutes during weekend peak congestion.

Originally, this section was scheduled to open in April 2022, but with 70% progress in overall work such as embankment and installation of substructures, the completion has been advanced by about seven months, according to Gyeongju City.

This project, with a total budget of 47 billion KRW, is a connecting section of the previously opened 7.76 km stretch from Cheonbuk Intersection to Silla Elementary School. Land compensation and cultural heritage excavation were completed in 2018, followed by the completion of Hwangnam Bridge, the only bridge in this section, in January 2019, and the remaining construction began in April of the same year.

Mayor Ju Nak-young of Gyeongju said, "The early opening of the riverside road connecting Gyeongju IC and the terminal will not only alleviate inconveniences for citizens using highways and public transportation but also greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy through increased tourists visiting Gyeongju."
