KOSPI Rises Over 1% in Early Trading... Recovers to 3100 Level

Both Major Markets Start Higher Amid Strong Individual Buying Momentum

[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] The KOSPI recovered the 3100 level, rising more than 1% in early trading.

On the 20th, the KOSPI opened at 3115.04, up 0.72% (22.38 points) from the previous day. Shortly after the opening, it rose to as high as 3145.01. As of 9:19 a.m., it showed a 1.05% increase from the previous day at 3124.98.

It appears that individual buying led the index's rise. Individuals net purchased 543.6 billion KRW, while foreigners and institutions net sold 182.3 billion KRW and 372 billion KRW, respectively.

Many sectors showed an upward trend. The transportation equipment sector rose the most, by 4.49%. This was followed by electrical and electronics (1.74%), manufacturing (1.70%), pharmaceuticals (1.30%), and telecommunications (0.90%). Meanwhile, construction (-0.52%) and insurance (-0.40%) declined.

All of the top 10 market capitalization stocks were on the rise. Kia Motors had the largest increase at 11.6%, followed by Celltrion (2.8%), Kakao (2.1%), SK Hynix (1.9%), and Samsung Electronics (1.2%).

The KOSDAQ also opened at 959.52, up 0.18% (1.77 points) from the previous day. As of 9:19 a.m., it recorded a 0.87% increase from the previous day at 966.08.

Individual buying was also prominent in the KOSDAQ market. Individuals net purchased 171.7 billion KRW, while foreigners and institutions net sold 12.2 billion KRW and 4.7 billion KRW, respectively.

Most sectors showed gains. The entertainment and culture sector rose the most, by 2.86%, followed by distribution (2.72%), transportation equipment and parts (1.37%), and machinery and equipment (1.26%). Only construction (-0.16%) and medical and precision instruments (-0.03%) declined.

Most of the top 10 market capitalization stocks were on the rise. Celltrion Healthcare had the largest increase at 3.4%, followed by Seegene (3.3%), SK Materials (2.6%), Celltrion Pharm (2.3%), Alteogen (1.4%), and CJ ENM (1.2%). Only EcoPro BM declined by -0.1%.
