Dobong-gu 'Eco Mileage Seasonal Management Special Points' Operation

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dobong-gu (Mayor Dongjin Lee) is operating the ‘Eco Mileage Seasonal Management Special Points’ system, which awards up to 12,000 mileage points during the ‘Fine Dust Seasonal Management’ operation period (from December last year to March this year) to Eco Mileage members.

The ‘Fine Dust Seasonal Management’ is an intensive management measure implemented from December to March (4 months), when high concentrations of fine dust frequently occur, to reduce the frequency and intensity of fine dust by enforcing stronger reduction policies than usual.

During the fine dust seasonal management period, the district awards special points of 10,000 mileage points per household to Eco Mileage members who reduce their energy usage by 20% or more compared to the average of the previous two years, and up to 12,000 mileage points per household to members who reduce usage by 30% or more.

The mileage accumulated through energy savings can be used in various ways, such as purchasing traditional market gift certificates, deducting apartment management fees, paying local taxes, or donating to energy-poor households. Applications can be made through the Eco Mileage website, local community centers, or by visiting the Environmental Policy Division of the district office directly.

Meanwhile, the ‘Eco Mileage’ system is a program in Seoul where households, businesses, and schools receive mileage (incentives) based on their greenhouse gas reduction performance by saving energy such as electricity, water, and city gas (district heating).

For individual members, if energy usage is reduced by 5% or more compared to the average usage during the same period over the previous two years every six months, mileage of up to 100,000 KRW annually is awarded. For group members, if energy usage is reduced by 10% or more compared to the average usage during the same period over the previous two years every four months, they receive incentives for energy efficiency and facility costs up to 10 million KRW after evaluation as an excellent group.

The Eco Mileage system is a core task of Dobong-gu’s ‘2050 Dobong-gu Greenhouse Gas Reduction Strategy’ established in September last year. Dobong-gu aims for 100% of its residents to join the Eco Mileage system by 2050. Dobong-gu was selected as the ‘Best District’ in both the first and second halves of 2020 in Seoul’s ‘Eco Mileage Autonomous District Evaluation,’ following 2019.

Mayor Dongjin Lee of Dobong-gu said, “Reducing greenhouse gases is the greatest challenge we must solve, and Eco Mileage is the first step toward saving energy to reduce the increasingly serious greenhouse gases. We ask for continued interest and participation from residents.”
