[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] Cartoonist Yoon Seoin, who sparked controversy for making disparaging remarks about independence activists and their descendants, has disclosed the details of donations received from his supporters. Earlier, the Liberation Association had announced plans to file a lawsuit seeking tens of billions of won in damages against Yoon Seoin.

On the 18th, Yoon Seoin posted on his Facebook page a screenshot of his bank account statement showing the donations he received. According to the captured image, his supporters donated various amounts ranging from 100,000 to 1,000,000 won with messages such as "Moon Jang" (a derogatory term for President Moon Jae-in), "Cheering for you," and "Subscription fee."

Yoon Seoin expressed gratitude, saying, "You don't have to send me money. No matter how crazy the country is, there is absolutely no way I will have to pay money due to such absurd lawsuits. I am very thankful, but you don't have to do that. I can endure well enough."

The Liberation Association has announced plans to file a lawsuit seeking 8.3 billion won in damages against Yoon Seoin. The association is expected to submit the complaint against Yoon Seoin within this week.

Kim Won-woong, president of the Liberation Association, appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' on the same day and said, "If 8,300 members of the Liberation Association each demand 1 million won in damages, it amounts to 8.3 billion won. This time, it is a scale that cannot be countered with donations."

He added, "Many descendants of independence activists from all over the country have contacted the Liberation Association about this issue. We respect the atmosphere of 'this cannot be left as it is,' and we are reaching a consensus to take legal action."

Kim emphasized, "This incident is not just about Yoon Seoin as an individual, but a social issue about the culture that fosters such people. I think it is an incident that requires us to reflect on ourselves."

Previously, Yoon Seoin sparked controversy by claiming that "pro-Japanese collaborators lived diligently, while independence activists lived carelessly."

On the 12th, Yoon Seoin posted on his Facebook a photo comparing the houses of descendants of pro-Japanese collaborators and independence activists, saying, "While the descendants of pro-Japanese collaborators lived so diligently, what exactly did the descendants of independence activists do?"

He then questioned, "If you look closely, weren't the so-called pro-Japanese collaborators people who lived diligently even 100 years ago, and the independence activists people who lived carelessly?"

Yoon Seoin's remarks spread through online communities and social networking services (SNS), intensifying the controversy. On the 14th, a petition was posted on the Blue House's National Petition Board urging punishment for Yoon Seoin for insulting independence activists.

The petitioner emphasized in the post, "Please firmly punish this outrageous act of publicly insulting the independence activists who sacrificed everything for the country to the extent that they could not even leave a proper inheritance to their descendants." As of 8 p.m. on the 19th, the petition had surpassed 110,000 endorsements.
