[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha stated on the 19th, "We will build a South Korea-U.S. alliance that further solidifies peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula."

Minister Kang made these remarks during her opening speech at the "Meeting on the Inauguration of the New U.S. Administration and the Development Direction of South Korea-U.S. Relations" held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs building, regarding the diplomatic direction toward the Biden administration era.

Minister Kang said, "We will promptly coordinate the direction and principles of the new administration's North Korea policy, revive the momentum of inter-Korean and North Korea-U.S. dialogues, and continue joint diplomatic efforts between South Korea and the U.S. to move closer to the goal of complete denuclearization and lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula."

She added, "Since past Democratic administrations have experience closely cooperating and collaborating with our government for peace on the Korean Peninsula, we expect to quickly synchronize efforts between South Korea and the U.S. shortly after the Biden administration's inauguration."

Minister Kang emphasized, "We will expand the cooperative horizon of the South Korea-U.S. alliance and actively contribute to solving global issues," adding, "In particular, cooperation between South Korea and the U.S. in the health sector can generate great synergy."

She mentioned, "Based on our experience in combating the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the U.S.'s global leadership, South Korea-U.S. health cooperation can significantly contribute not only to overcoming the immediate challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic but also to preventing and responding to potential future global health crises."

She continued, "Climate change is also an urgent global common threat and an area where active cooperation between South Korea and the U.S. can be sought," stating, "Our government's Green New Deal policy and the 2050 carbon neutrality goal share the policy direction emphasized by the Biden administration in addressing climate change."
