[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced on the 19th that it has established an educational plan for the May 18 Democratic Movement using the curriculum.


The Jeonnam May 18 Democratic Movement education plan confirmed on this day was established by the May 18 Democratic Movement Education Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Education Committee). The Education Committee is an organization composed of seven members recommended by various institutions and organizations to advise the Superintendent of Education on May 18 Democratic Movement education.


The education plan presented the following tasks: ▲ Strengthening May 18 Democratic Movement education using the curriculum ▲ Supporting curriculum-linked programs for the realization of democracy.


Specifically, it includes ▲ Strengthening May 18 Democratic Movement education using subject education and creative experiential activities ▲ Producing and distributing various educational materials ▲ Operating the 41st anniversary commemoration week of the May 18 Democratic Movement.


At the meeting, Do Committee member Choi Seon-guk suggested, “It is necessary to hold the Education Committee once more in August, the period for establishing the budget, to prepare a plan for sharing projects and support with the provincial government office.”


Director of Education Department Wi Kyung-jong said, “To enhance the effectiveness of the education plan and promote constructive discussions, I will instruct the business department to operate the Education Committee meetings twice a year, in January and August. We will distribute good materials that can be used in schools, and if conditions improve in the future, we will also promote training to strengthen teachers’ capabilities.”


Meanwhile, Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education plans to guide frontline schools within this month so that the confirmed May 18 Democratic Movement education plan can be reflected in school education plans.
