Thanks to China's New Growth Theme... Mirae Asset's Hong Kong Listed ETF Net Assets Surpass 2 Trillion Won

[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] Mirae Asset Global Investments' net assets of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange have surpassed 2 trillion won.

On the 19th, Mirae Asset Global Investments announced that the net assets of ETFs listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange reached $2.17 billion (approximately 2.326 trillion won). The inflow of funds centered on China’s new growth theme ETFs has led the assets under management to more than double since reaching 1 trillion won in July last year.

Mirae Asset Global Investments Hong Kong branch entered the market in 2011 by being the first domestic company to directly list ETFs on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Currently, it manages 16 ETFs.

Representative ETFs include the 'Global X China Biotech ETF' and the 'Global X China Cloud Computing ETF,' both listed in July 2019. These products invest respectively in leading Chinese biotechnology companies and the cloud computing industry. As of the closing price on the 15th, they have posted cumulative returns of 108.9% and 110.8%.

ETFs such as the 'Global X China Electric Vehicle ETF,' 'Global X China Clean Energy ETF,' and 'Global X China Consumer Brand ETF,' which were listed in January last year, are also performing well. Since inception, they have recorded returns of 128.9%, 95.0%, and 40.4%, respectively.

According to the Korea Securities Depository’s securities information portal 'SAYBRO,' domestic investors net purchased over $110 million of the 'Global X China Electric Vehicle ETF' and over $78 million of the 'Global X China Semiconductor ETF' last year. These correspond to the second and third largest net purchases among all Hong Kong-listed stocks. Several other Hong Kong-listed Global X ETFs also ranked high.

Lee Jung-ho, CEO of Mirae Asset Global Investments Hong Kong branch, said, "Providing China-related thematic products that are growing as global leaders in new growth sectors to the market ahead of others was effective," adding, "We will continue to offer efficient investment solutions for the Chinese market to global investors."
