- Pre-Inspection of Wage Payment Status at 169 Government-Funded Construction Sites
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Gwangyang City will conduct a comprehensive inspection of wage payment practices at city-commissioned construction sites for 10 days from tomorrow until the 29th, ahead of the upcoming Seollal holiday, to protect workers expected to face difficulties due to unpaid wages.
The inspection targets 169 public construction sites currently underway in the region (64 projects over 200 million KRW, 105 projects under 200 million KRW). The contract and ordering departments will jointly check for any unpaid wages to workers, equipment fees, and material payments.
For sites where there is concern about wage arrears based on the inspection results, the city will demand corrective actions to complete payments before the holiday. It also plans to expedite progress and completion inspections upon application, shorten payment periods, and ensure early disbursement of project funds before the Seollal holiday.
Park Bong-yeol, head of the Accounting Department, said, “With the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, this Seollal holiday will be more challenging than in previous years,” adding, “We will thoroughly pre-inspect public construction sites to ensure that all workers can enjoy a joyful and warm Seollal holiday.”
