Goheung-gun Officially Begins Construction of Bandabi National Sports Center

[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 19th, Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that the construction of the ‘Community-Oriented (Disabled-Friendly) National Sports Center,’ selected in 2019 as a Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Living SOC public project, officially began in January this year.

This project will be built on the site of the Ho-hyeong-ri Cultural Center in Goheung-eup, with a total area of 2,516㎡ consisting of one basement floor and two above-ground floors. The total project cost is 7.5 billion KRW, including 3 billion KRW in national funding.

Starting construction in January, the goal is to complete by December this year, creating a multipurpose gymnasium, multipurpose exercise room, fitness training room, and fitness measurement room.

The county selected the location as optimal, considering that public sports facilities such as the public stadium, swimming pool, soccer field, and gymnasium are concentrated in the area, allowing linkage with various community sports programs through the establishment of the Bandabi National Sports Center.

Last year, the county completed the architectural design competition and basic and detailed design services, finished administrative procedures including consultation on the basic design with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, construction technology review and contract review by Jeollanam-do, and selected Geumjeong Comprehensive Construction Co., Ltd. as the contractor to start construction.

County Governor Song Guigeun said, “I hope the Goheung Bandabi Sports Center will become a cradle for sports activities for the disabled, improving their quality of life and health, as well as increasing residents’ participation in various sports and cultural activities.”

A county official stated, “Once the Bandabi Sports Center is completed, it is expected to greatly help alleviate the inconvenience faced by disabled people in using sports facilities compared to non-disabled people.”
