Gyeongnam Urges 'Compensation Claims' for Uncompensated Private Lands Included in River Areas

Extension of Compensation Claim Expiration Deadline Until December 31, 2023

Gyeongnam Urges 'Compensation Claims' for Uncompensated Private Lands Included in River Areas

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Gyeongnam Province has urged claims for compensation for uncompensated land that was incorporated into river areas and nationalized.

Last year, the amendment to the "Special Measures Act on Compensation for Land Incorporated into Rivers" extended the statute of limitations for compensation claims until December 31, 2023.

Accordingly, river land that has not yet been compensated can now receive compensation.

The compensation claim targets within the province include national rivers and former (Gu) local first-class rivers.

The province identifies owners through registries and administrative computer networks, and strengthens guidance by notifying compensation claim procedures by the end of March each year to protect the property rights of residents.

Matters related to compensation for land incorporated into rivers are received and processed by the river compensation departments of the respective city or county.

A provincial official stated, "We plan to notify the compensation claim procedures for land incorporated into rivers by the end of March this year," adding, "Since the right to claim compensation under the Special Measures Act expires on December 31, 2023, we will strive to ensure smooth compensation."
