Except for documents excluded for security reasons, there is a policy of active disclosure.
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] The National Intelligence Service (NIS) will disclose the list of Sewol Ferry-related materials it holds to the "Special Investigation Commission on Social Disasters" (Sacheomwi).
On the 19th, the NIS announced that it will allow Sacheomwi to access the entire list of Sewol Ferry materials in its possession.
The NIS explained that Sacheomwi will be able to review and directly investigate 640,000 documents containing the terms ‘Sewolho’ or ‘Sewol號’.
The NIS stated that it has formed a related task force (TF) to cooperate with the investigation into the Sewol Ferry incident and has been discussing ways to allow Sacheomwi to access and receive the materials.
The NIS said, "If there is a request to verify specific documents during the list review process, we will actively support documents except those that must remain confidential for legitimate reasons such as national security." Additionally, the NIS said it will consider measures such as meeting with the Sewol Ferry victims' families to allow them to review the list of related materials.
