[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] A pile-up involving 35 vehicles occurred on the Seohaean Expressway in Dangjin, Chungnam, due to snowy road conditions.
According to the Chungnam Provincial Police Agency Highway Patrol on the 18th, around 3 p.m., 15 vehicles including trucks and passenger cars slipped on the snowy road near the Dangjin Interchange at the 260 km mark heading towards Seoul on the Seohaean Expressway.
Traffic congestion then began, and about 3 km away, another collision involving 20 vehicles occurred consecutively, resulting in a total of 35 damaged vehicles.
So far, one person has been identified with serious injuries, and a total of eight people were injured in the accident and transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
As a result of the accident, the expressway heading towards Seoul was completely closed for about 1 hour and 30 minutes, causing severe traffic congestion with cars lined up for approximately 4 km.
The police believe the accident occurred due to heavy snowfall making the road slippery and visibility difficult. Currently, traffic is flowing smoothly in both directions.
Earlier that day, at around 10:45 a.m., a three-vehicle collision involving a 25-ton trailer, a truck, and a bus occurred at the 256 km mark from the Mokpo starting point heading towards Seoul on the Seohaean Expressway.
On that day, Dangjin experienced repeated snowfall and cessation, recording a snowfall accumulation of about 3 to 4 cm.
