Imsil N Cheese Starts Targeting the Chinese Market

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk, announced on the 18th that it recently held a meeting to explore export plans to China for ‘ImsilN Cheese,’ Korea’s representative original cheese.

The meeting was attended by County Governor Sim Min, Ahn Younggeol, head of the Yanji City Government Seoul Representative Office in China, Jung Geunho, CEO of the China trade company Life Apparel, and Shim Seungman, executive director of Imsil Cheese Agricultural Cooperative, exchanging in-depth opinions on exports to China.

The meeting was arranged by Lee Geunjae, chairman of Saehan Construction Co., Ltd., originally from Imsil-gun, who has a special love for his hometown.

Recently, China’s dairy market has been rapidly expanding due to increased consumer income levels, the spread of Western food culture, and growing cheese demand among children and young people.

According to statistics, the size of the Chinese cheese market reached 6.55 billion yuan (approximately 1.1115 trillion won) in 2019 and is expected to reach 10.5 billion yuan (approximately 1.7817 trillion won) by 2023.

Following this meeting, detailed practical consultations are expected to proceed, and Imsil Cheese Agricultural Cooperative, the producer of ImsilN Cheese, plans to ship export volumes through the trade subsidiary of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, with distribution handled by the Chinese company.

In particular, opening the export route to China for ImsilN Cheese, a representative specialty product of Imsil-gun, is expected to greatly contribute not only to revitalizing the local economy but also to the growth of the livestock and dairy processing industries.

Governor Sim Min said, “Amid the difficulties faced by local dairy processing companies in securing sales channels due to the impact of COVID-19, opening the export route of ImsilN Cheese to China will help it become a global brand and greatly support related industries. We will continuously strive to help ImsilN Cheese take a step forward and find export plans for overseas markets including China through this meeting.”
