[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Daegu City announced on the 18th that the '2021 Daegu International Youth Sports Festival' (ICG), originally scheduled to be held in July this year, will be postponed to 2023 due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

Daegu City successfully hosted the International Youth Sports Festival, an IOC (International Olympic Committee) certified event, for the first time in Korea in 2012. Subsequently, the city secured the 2021 event again and has been preparing since last year by forming the ICG Promotion Team.

However, due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, following the 2020 Kecskem?t ICG (Hungary), the Pyeongchang Winter ICG, which was being prepared to be held in Pyeongchang, Korea, was postponed from February 2021 to 2022.

In this situation, Daegu City and the ICG Committee judged that holding the event normally in July this year would be difficult and decided to postpone the event by two years. The postponed 2021 Daegu ICG will be held in 2023, following the 2022 Coventry ICG (United Kingdom).

Park Hee-jun, Director of Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau of Daegu City, pledged, "With the extended preparation period, we will plan diverse and meaningful programs and make thorough preparations to successfully hold the sports festival in the post-COVID era."
