[Asia Economy Reporter Nahana] Kim Yeon-koung (33, Heungkuk Life), the queen of the women's volleyball national team, revealed that she has let go of her expectations regarding the Tokyo Summer Olympics.

After the V-League women's match against IBK Industrial Bank held at Hwaseong Gymnasium on the 17th, Kim Yeon-koung responded to a question about the Tokyo Olympics, saying, "It would be great if it happens, but at some point, my expectations dropped," adding, "Since last year, the more I expected, the greater the disappointment. Honestly, right now, I have let go of (my expectations to participate in the Tokyo Olympics)."

She continued, "The COVID-19 situation in Japan has not improved yet," and said, "I am not placing high hopes and am just waiting."

Earlier, in January last year, Kim Yeon-koung led the team to secure a spot in the Tokyo Olympics Asian qualifiers despite suffering a torn abdominal muscle and taking painkillers.

Meanwhile, the Tokyo Olympics were postponed by one year due to the impact of COVID-19, and the possibility of a normal hosting this year remains uncertain.
