Last October, officially opened with a total of 203 parking spaces easing local parking congestion... Road width doubled over a 780m section adjacent to the parking lot to improve traffic flow... Safety doubled with emergency call buttons installed in December... Resident-priority parking applicants to be recruited in February
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yudonggyun) is receiving positive evaluations as the Mangwon Nadeulmok public parking lot, built last year, plays a significant role in solving parking difficulties for nearby residents.
The Mangwon Nadeulmok public parking lot (around 460-5 Mangwon-dong), officially opened on October 1 last year, has a total of 203 parking spaces, including 62 spaces in Building A and 141 spaces in Building B.
Building A operates as an hourly parking lot with a parking fee of 200 KRW per 5 minutes, while Building B is entirely used as resident-priority parking.
Originally, this area had a significantly low parking lot availability rate, with an average of about 455 cases of illegal parking during nighttime within a 300m radius of the project site, making parking a serious issue.
This is why the construction of the public parking lot by the district is evaluated as having eased the parking difficulties in the Mangwon-dong area.
Meanwhile, along with the construction of the public parking lot, the district expanded the road width of Donggyoro 1-gil, a 780m section adjacent to the parking lot. Donggyoro 1-gil, which was previously narrow at 6m wide, has now been expanded to 12m in width, with sidewalks installed for pedestrian safety.
Moreover, satisfaction with the safety emergency bells installed inside the parking lot has been high recently. In December last year, the district installed a total of 13 safety emergency bells (4 in Building A, 9 in Building B) at the Mangwon Nadeulmok public parking lot. When the safety emergency bell is pressed, the caller's location is immediately transmitted to the Mapo Police Station, and the call is automatically connected to the 112 comprehensive control center, allowing immediate communication with the police.
Most residents are satisfied with these changes. Resident Kim Yeonju (37), who lives nearby, said, “Just having a safe indoor parking space where I can park without worry greatly reduces the burden of living issues,” and added, “The recently installed safety emergency bells are truly welcome and a policy I want to praise as a woman.”
A representative from the Mapo-gu Facilities Management Corporation, which manages the parking lot, stated, “A recruitment announcement for resident-priority parking spaces available from April will be issued on the 18th, and applications will be accepted from February 8 to 23.”
Mayor Yudonggyun of Mapo-gu said, “We will continuously conduct traffic volume, pedestrian volume, and related environmental surveys to seek ways to improve the road and residential environment in the Mapo area.”
