[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] "We proudly present the most powerful and diverse flagship lineup. Despite challenging times, devices like the Galaxy S21, Galaxy Buds Pro, and Galaxy SmartTag will lead industry growth in 2021."
Notae Moon, President of Samsung Electronics’ Wireless Business Division, expressed confidence that the Galaxy S21 series, which offers various options, will drive industry growth despite the difficulties posed by the pandemic.
On the 17th, Samsung Electronics released an unpack FAQ through its newsroom featuring key executives of the Wireless Business Division: President Notae Moon, CX Director Patrick Somme, and Development Director Kim Kyungjun, outlining strategies, goals, and core features related to the Galaxy S21.
Notae Moon: "Expanding the S Pen Experience to Various Categories"
President Notae Moon explained, "The features of this product include a new design, professional-grade camera and video, and powerful performance, offering diverse choices according to style and needs. During the preparation phase, carriers and partners responded positively to the new design, pro-level camera, smooth integrated user experience, and performance."
Regarding the support of the S Pen on the Galaxy S21 Ultra model, President Moon said, "Samsung is committed to seamless innovation in mobile experiences out of consideration to make users’ daily lives more convenient. Moving forward, we will actively listen to diverse consumer feedback and expand the S Pen experience into various categories, continuously striving to provide the best mobile experience alongside product innovation."
President Notae Moon emphasized the 'Galaxy ecosystem expansion' strategy showcased at the unpack event. "We will continuously collaborate with partners to open a broader ecosystem beyond mobile, extending to smart homes and connected cars," he stated.
Excluding Chargers and Earphones... "Continuing Bold Challenges with Environmental Consideration"
Starting with the Galaxy S21, Samsung Electronics made a bold decision to exclude wired headphones and chargers. Vice President Patrick Somme explained, "We focused on promoting the reuse and recycling of existing accessories and recognized that many Galaxy users make sustainable choices in daily life. To empower them, we concentrated on the value of 'removing' starting with the S21 series, removing chargers and earphones from the package to reduce weight. We plan to continue bold challenges with environmental consideration."
Vice President Somme added, "Since Samsung Electronics has adopted the standard USB-C port since 2017, there should be no issues using existing chargers with the latest Galaxy models."
Regarding the main target audience for the Galaxy S21, CX Director Patrick Somme (Vice President) said, "The Galaxy S21 series targets users who want premium mobile innovation products capable of capturing and sharing everyday moments. The Galaxy S21 and S21+ are designed for users who want to shoot and share high-quality photos and videos while enjoying a premium viewing experience. The Galaxy S21 Ultra offers the ultimate premium smartphone experience, allowing users to get closer to their loved ones or objects."
On the key focus during the camera development process for the Galaxy S21 series, Development Director Kim Kyungjun (Vice President) said, "Our goal was to enable anyone to take professional-grade photos and videos regardless of lighting or distance to the subject. Users can easily create high-quality results using improved on-device AI." He added, "Samsung’s advanced image sensor is the starting point. We raised the standards by equipping a pro-level camera system to satisfy professional photographers and IT experts who seek challenges."
Expanding the 'Galaxy Ecosystem' to Smart Homes and Connected Cars
At this unpack event, Samsung Electronics presented a blueprint to expand smart home and connected car services through collaboration not only with existing partners like Google but also with automobile manufacturers. At the center of this is the Galaxy smartphone.
Vice President Kim Kyungjun explained, "By actively promoting ecosystem expansion through open collaboration with connected intelligent devices, we improve the mobile experience and remove restrictions on information access. Whether commuting between home and office or traveling in a vehicle equipped with Android Auto, users can now focus on what matters most anytime and anywhere while utilizing mobile and connecting with people and things."
The 'digital key' service, provided based on UWB (Ultra-Wideband) technology embedded in the Galaxy S21, will be launched soon. Vice President Kim added, "Through cooperation with major automobile companies, users will be able to enjoy next-generation car experiences starting this summer. We are working to expand automotive partnerships to provide digital key functionality to various car manufacturers and vehicle models."
