[Asia Economy Reporters Kangwook Cho and Hyesun Lim] The quarantine authorities announced that as of 9 PM on the 16th, the number of new confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) nationwide was counted at 474.
This is 50 fewer cases than the 524 counted at the same time the previous day.
Looking at the regions where confirmed cases occurred, 334 cases (70.5%) were in the metropolitan area, and 140 cases (29.5%) were in non-metropolitan areas.
By city and province, there were 159 cases in Gyeonggi, 140 in Seoul, 35 in Incheon, 21 in Busan, 17 in Ulsan, 16 in Gyeongnam, 15 each in Gwangju and Gyeongbuk, 13 in Daegu, 12 in Gangwon, 10 in Jeonnam, 7 in Chungbuk, 6 in Chungnam, 5 in Jeonbuk, and 3 in Daejeon. Among the 17 cities and provinces, Sejong and Jeju have not yet reported any confirmed cases.
Since there is still time left until midnight, when the tally closes, the number of new confirmed cases announced as of 0:00 on the 17th is expected to increase. Based on recent trends in confirmed cases, it is anticipated to reach around 500.
