Former Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office on the 7th and stated his 'conditional candidacy' by saying, "If Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People Party, joins the People Power Party, I will not run in the Seoul mayoral election." On the same day, former Mayor Oh said, "Today, I earnestly propose to candidate Ahn Cheol-soo for opposition unity. Please join the People Power Party. It would be more desirable if you decide to merge," adding, "Then I will not run and will do my best for the opposition's victory." / Photo by Yoon Dong-ju doso7@
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] Oh Se-hoon, former mayor of Seoul from the People Power Party (photo), will officially announce his candidacy for the Seoul mayoral by-election on the 17th.
Former Mayor Oh previously stated at a press conference on the 7th that he would run if Ahn Cheol-soo, leader of the People’s Party, did not join the People Power Party by the 17th, the day before the party’s primary candidate registration. Oh’s side explained that he decided to run based on the judgment that Ahn’s joining was unlikely.
On the 17th, former Mayor Oh is expected to explain why he should become the mayor of Seoul and reflect on his mid-term resignation from the mayoral office 10 years ago in connection with the free school meals referendum.
Currently serving as the head of the Gwangjin-eul district party committee, former Mayor Oh is known to be forming a 'young camp' centered on the 30s and 40s generation without establishing a separate office apart from the Gwangjin-gu office.
