Gangdong-gu, Seongan-ro Angel Workshop Street Developed as a Pedestrian-Centered Cultural Street for Walking

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) is promoting a basic plan establishment project for street environment improvement to create Seongan-ro Angel Workshop Street as a pedestrian-centered cultural street where people want to walk.

The Angel Workshop Street creation project is a project by Gangdong-gu to renovate the area around Seongan-ro, which is densely populated with variant businesses, to support young people who have ideas, skills, and passion but lack funds.

The project converts variant businesses into workshops and supports them by providing rental deposit, interior costs, and 50% of monthly rent for one year after opening. As of 2021, 25 stores are about to open.

Through this plan, the district will derive measures to improve the pedestrian and vehicle road environment, change the species of street trees, and design distinctive street features to make Seongan-ro a pedestrian-centered cultural street where people want to walk.

The project section is a street extending from JYP Entertainment, a large planning agency located in Seongnae-dong, to the Gangdong Seongsim Hospital intersection, covering a road length of 1.4 km (2.8 km round trip).

The project is scheduled to complete the service by March this year, derive practical plans to apply to the project, and start full-scale street environment improvement work.

Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “The district is creating youth jobs and revitalizing the local economy through the Angel Workshop Street creation project,” and added, “We will work harder to create a brighter Seongan-ro through street environment improvement and to establish a cultural street where people want to walk.”
