Oscar Dark Horse 'Minari' to Release in March

The film "Minari," praised by the American media and critics, will be screened domestically in March. Distributor Pan Cinema announced the release on the 15th and revealed the first poster. "Minari" is a drama depicting the story of a Korean-American family who immigrated to Arkansas, USA, in the 1980s. It portrays the joys and sorrows experienced by the couple facing conflicts in their new life and the grandmother who came from Korea to help them. Directed by Lee Isaac Chung (Jeong Isaak), the film is based on his autobiographical story. It has been recognized for its artistic merit, winning the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, the largest independent film festival in the US, and is considered a dark horse for the Academy Awards held in April. In particular, actress Youn Yuh-jung, who plays the grandmother Soon-ja, has won eleven Best Supporting Actress awards from the LA Film Critics Association, Sunset Circle Awards, Boston Film Critics Association, and others, drawing attention as the first Korean actor who might receive an Academy Award for acting.
