[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dobong-gu (Mayor Lee Dong-jin) operates 'Cold Wave Shelters' designated at four lodging facilities within the district to protect vulnerable groups threatened by safety during cold wave warnings.
The district has signed agreements with four lodging facilities in the area, securing a total of 40 rooms as safe shelters to provide warm and comfortable accommodations for the elderly.
The Cold Wave Shelters are located at four sites by region: ▲M Motel (594 Dobong-ro) ▲Internet Motel (65 Uicheon-ro 24-gil) ▲Motel Sehwa (17 Banghak-ro 6-gil) ▲Mong Motel (917 Dobong-ro), and will be operated flexibly 24 hours during cold wave warnings.
Eligible users are elderly people aged 65 or older and vulnerable groups to cold waves such as basic livelihood security recipients living in poor housing conditions.
The operation period is until February, with possible extensions if the cold wave warning continues. To use the 'Cold Wave Shelter,' applications can be made by phone or visit to the local community service center when a cold wave warning is issued.
According to a district official, the cold wave shelters will strictly follow quarantine rules such as limiting shelter capacity according to social distancing levels to prevent COVID-19, conducting disinfection, checking mask-wearing and body temperature, and maintaining user logs.
Lee Dong-jin, Mayor of Dobong-gu, said, "We will focus all district-level responses and support for residents who are suffering from the double hardship of COVID-19 and the cold wave."
