[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] On the 15th, a comparison was made between the specifications of the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S20, which were unveiled. Although the price of the Galaxy S21 has become overwhelmingly cheaper, the RAM and display specifications have slightly decreased compared to its predecessor.

The Galaxy S21 series comes in 6.2-inch, 6.7-inch, and 6.8-inch sizes, with only the Ultra model's screen size reduced by 0.1 inches compared to the previous generation. The Galaxy S21's screen resolution is FHD+ (2400*1080), which is lower than the Galaxy S20's Quad HD+ (3200*1440). The Galaxy S21+ has the same resolution. The Galaxy S21 Ultra's resolution remains 3200*1440, the same as its predecessor. The Galaxy S21 and S21+ feature flat displays.

The 120Hz refresh rate (frames displayed per second) is the same for both the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S20. However, the difference is that in the Galaxy S21 series, the refresh rate automatically adjusts depending on the content. The Galaxy S21 and S21+ adjust between 48Hz and 120Hz, while the Galaxy S21 Ultra adjusts between 10Hz and 120Hz, improving battery efficiency.

The Galaxy S21 is up to 250,000 KRW cheaper than its predecessor. The prices by model are ▲ Galaxy S21 at 999,900 KRW ▲ Galaxy S21+ at 1,199,000 KRW ▲ Galaxy S21 Ultra (256GB) at 1,452,000 KRW ▲ Galaxy S21 Ultra (512GB) at 1,599,400 KRW. The previous Galaxy S20 series had launch prices of 1,248,500 KRW, 1,353,000 KRW, and 1,595,000 KRW respectively. The Galaxy S20 Ultra 512GB model was launched at 1,793,000 KRW. The Galaxy S21 is 240,000 KRW cheaper, the Galaxy S21+ is 100,000 KRW cheaper, and the Ultra model is 140,000 to 200,000 KRW cheaper.

The weight of all three models has increased slightly compared to their predecessors. The Galaxy S21 (71.2 x 151.7 x 7.9 mm, 169g) is longer in width and slightly heavier than the Galaxy S20 (69.1 x 151.7 x 7.9 mm, 163g). The Galaxy S21+ (75.6 x 161.5 x 7.8 mm, 200g) is 14g heavier than the Galaxy S20+ (73.7 x 161.9 x 7.8 mm, 186g). The Galaxy S21 Ultra (75.6 x 165.1 x 8.9 mm, 227g) is smaller and thinner than the Galaxy S20 Ultra (76.0 x 166.9 x 8.8 mm, 220g) but heavier.

The RAM specifications have decreased compared to the previous generation, while the internal memory has remained the same or increased. Hardware specifications were adjusted to lower the price. The Galaxy S20 series all featured 12GB of RAM, but the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21+ come with 8GB of RAM. Instead, the Galaxy S21's internal memory doubled to 256GB from the previous 128GB. It appears that the capacity was increased due to the removal of the microSD card slot, which was a strength of the Galaxy series. The Ultra model supports 256GB memory with 12GB RAM and 512GB with 16GB RAM.

Camera megapixels are unchanged except for the Ultra model. The Galaxy S21 and S21+ are equipped with a 64MP telephoto lens (3x zoom, F2.0), a 12MP wide-angle lens (F1.8), and a 12MP ultra-wide lens (F2.2). The Ultra model features a 108MP wide-angle lens (F1.8), a 12MP dual-pixel ultra-wide lens (F2.2), a 10MP dual-pixel telephoto lens (3x zoom, F2.4), a 10MP dual-pixel telephoto lens (10x zoom, F4.9), and laser AF. The Galaxy S20 Ultra's telephoto camera was 48MP and included DepthVision, but this model has changed to 10MP and includes laser AF.

The zoom functionality is similar to the previous generation but with added features. The Galaxy S21 and S21+ support 3x optical zoom and 30x digital zoom. The Ultra model supports 10x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom. The Galaxy S21 series added a 'Zoom Lock' feature that automatically stabilizes the image when zoomed in 20x.

The battery capacities are ▲ Galaxy S21 4000mAh ▲ S21+ 4800mAh ▲ S21 Ultra 5000mAh. Only the Galaxy S21+ has an increased capacity of 300mAh compared to its predecessor.
