[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-ju] In Canada, a woman was caught by the police for violating the nighttime curfew regulation by walking her husband on a leash.

According to major foreign media on the 12th (local time), the couple encountered the police while walking around their home in Sherbrooke, Quebec, at around 9 p.m. on the 9th.

Quebec recently implemented a curfew regulation from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. to prevent the spread of COVID-19, but allowed exceptions for walking pets.

The couple argued with the police, claiming they were not violating the curfew. The wife, who had her husband on a leash, told the police, "We are following the pet regulations" and "I am walking my pet."

The police fined each of them 1,546 Canadian dollars (approximately 1,332,000 Korean won).

During the first weekend of the curfew enforcement on the 9th and 10th, Quebec imposed fines for 750 curfew violations.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 infections are rapidly increasing in Canada, with the total number of cases approaching 670,000.

On the 11th, Quebec Premier Fran?ois Legault urged residents to maintain social distancing, saying, "I know this is difficult, but Quebec residents can come together as one team when necessary."

He also warned, "The situation in Montreal, the largest city in Montreal, is 'really critical,'" adding, "Hospitals have reached a point where they cannot treat all patients."
