[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…‘US Women’s Open Champion’ Kim A-rim (26, SBI Savings Bank, photo) is competing with the ‘old rookies’ for the ‘Rookie of the Year’ title.
On the 14th (Korean time), Golfweek in the United States reported in its LPGA Tour rookie article, "No Ye-rim, Hailey Moore, Andrea Lee (all from the U.S.) will also participate in tournaments as rookies in 2021," adding, "There are five new rookies this year, including Kim A-rim." Due to COVID-19 in 2020, the LPGA Tour held only 16 tournaments and did not select a Rookie of the Year.
This is why last year’s rookies maintain their rookie status in 2021. Korean players have swept the LPGA Tour Rookie of the Year award for five consecutive years from 2015 to 2019. In 2020, Jeon Ji-won (24, KB Financial Group) and Son Yu-jeong (20, Volvik) did not perform well, almost ending the six-year streak of Korean rookies winning the award, but due to COVID-19, they were given another chance. Kim A-rim, who was a ‘non-member,’ declared her entry into the U.S. immediately after winning the US Women’s Open, setting off the race for Rookie of the Year.
