Geumcheon-gu, Year-Round Operation of Dream Start Non-Face-to-Face Reading Habit Program for 58 Children from January to December... Preventing Learning Gaps Due to Lack of Public Education, Supporting Self-Directed Reading Habits
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yuseonghun) will operate the reading habit development program "Yeoldubuk Chingu" for Dream Start children from January to December.
This program was prepared to prevent learning gaps among Dream Start children caused by the absence of public education during the COVID-19 era and to create a non-face-to-face learning environment.
The district previously selected a total of 58 children to participate in this program by accepting applications from Dream Start children who were concerned about learning gaps due to COVID-19 and those who wished to join.
The program operates by delivering books requested by participating children to their homes, and children who submit reviews after reading will be provided with the next month's requested books. If they participate every month, they can receive a total of 12 books annually.
The district plans to select the best reviews and reading champions in the first and second halves of the year and award prizes such as book gift certificates.
Yuseonghun, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "Through this program, we aim to alleviate learning disparities among vulnerable children caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and support the formation of long-term reading habits. We will strive to discover programs that can operate year-round regardless of the COVID-19 situation so that children are not excluded from educational services."
