Next Runners Named: Dangjin Mayor and Iksan Mayor
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Park Gyeom-su, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, participated in the ‘Expecting Local Autonomy’ challenge on the 13th.
‘Expecting Local Autonomy’ is a campaign delivering key messages to welcome a new era of local autonomy following the comprehensive revision of the Local Autonomy Act for the first time in 32 years.
The campaign is conducted in a relay style, where participants hold a sign expressing their determination and will to prepare for the future of local autonomy, take a photo, and then nominate the next person.
The Presidential Committee on Local Autonomy, established under the President, first launched the campaign on December 16 last year, and it has since spread to various local governments.
Park Gyeom-su, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, “With the revision of the Local Autonomy Act, a foundation has been laid to achieve groundbreaking development in local autonomy, including customized system design that fully reflects Gangbuk-gu’s unique characteristics. We will strive to implement administration where residents are the owners, so that true grassroots democracy can take root.”
After expressing his expectations for local autonomy, Mayor Park recommended Kim Hong-jang, Mayor of Dangjin, and Jeong Heon-yul, Mayor of Iksan, sister cities, as the next participants.
