Boseong-gun Launches 'All-Out Effort' to Revitalize Local Economy Hit by COVID-19


[Boseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Cheon-seok] Boseong County has stepped up to revitalize the local economy, which has been stagnant due to COVID-19.


According to Boseong County on the 13th, the county plans to expand the issuance of the local currency, Boseong Love Gift Certificates, to 50 billion KRW this year to support small business owners and neighborhood markets, and will actively promote the distribution of card-type gift certificates.


For the revitalization of traditional markets, the △Beolgyo Traditional Market Revitalization Project (25.8 billion KRW) is accelerating with a goal of completion in May. The △Boseong-eup City Gas Supply Project (76 billion KRW), a long-cherished project of Boseong residents for 10 years, will also break ground this year.


Along with achieving a 100% occupancy rate in the industrial complex, the △Second Industrial Complex New Development will begin. Projects such as the △Youth Startup Mall Development and New Job Creation Project (4.3 billion KRW), which will help young people achieve stable economic independence and bring a fresh breeze to commerce, and the △Youth and Job Integrated Center operation are also planned.


In particular, as part of economic revitalization measures, Boseong County is devising long-term economic activation plans and implementing various policies not only to support small business owners but also to improve the environment for attracting companies, expand living SOC, promote youth startups, and provide quality jobs.


Plans include building smart factories to strengthen the competitiveness and productivity of local manufacturers, hope job projects aligned with local job policies, and public job projects such as local job projects to support the livelihoods and employment stability of vulnerable workers.


County Governor Kim Cheol-woo said, “We will solidly promote mid- to long-term plans not only to support small business owners hit by COVID-19 but also to create a business-friendly environment and lead young people to settle in the region through economic stability.”


Meanwhile, Boseong County ranked first in employment growth rate in Jeollanam-do last year and was selected as an ‘Excellent Institution for Regional Economic Revitalization’ in the evaluation of 13 indicators across six fields, including small business and SME promotion, conducted by Jeollanam-do.
