[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) announced on the 13th that it will conduct intensive inspections from this month until June to suppress the occurrence of illegally abandoned waste.
Since the day before, Nam-gu has been conducting inspections targeting areas with high concerns of illegal waste occurrence, such as the rural area of Daechon-dong, warehouses within industrial complexes, and waste disposal companies.
To this end, Nam-gu has organized two inspection teams to identify the storage status of sites approved for temporary waste storage and is also conducting on-site inspections of places where waste dumping is possible, such as vacant lots in rural areas and privately owned warehouses.
In addition, inspections of 34 waste disposal companies in the district are being conducted simultaneously, and village residents in rural areas will be informed about crackdowns on violations such as illegal waste abandonment and how to report them.
Furthermore, monitoring of vehicles suspected of waste discharge passing through rural villages will be carried out regularly.
A Nam-gu official said, “We are conducting intensive inspections to preemptively block the occurrence of abandoned waste in the district. Minor issues will be corrected on-site, and legal actions such as fines will be imposed for serious violations.”
