"If 1 Person Reduces 1 Ton, Annual Greenhouse Gas Emissions Decrease by 3.4 Million Tons"

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Busan City is launching a campaign encouraging ‘small actions’ in daily life to reduce greenhouse gases.

On the 13th, Busan City announced that it will promote the greenhouse gas reduction policy ‘Reducing 1 ton of greenhouse gases per person’ with citizen participation, in accordance with the ‘2030 Greenhouse Gas Reduction Phase 1 Implementation Plan.’

Busan City has selected 12 representative action tasks and plans to focus on them monthly. It is expected that if citizens adhere well to these tasks, there will be an annual reduction effect of 1 ton of greenhouse gases per person.

It is projected that if all Busan citizens actively participate, an annual reduction of 3.4 million tons of greenhouse gases can be achieved.

In January, the winter season, a campaign to ‘Maintain indoor temperature at 20℃ during winter’ will be conducted to keep an appropriate indoor temperature.

Busan City expects that simply maintaining the indoor temperature at an appropriate level during the winter, when energy usage sharply increases, can reduce 76.7 kg of greenhouse gases per person.

Busan City plans to actively promote the campaign through online platforms, outdoor electronic billboards, bulletin boards, and public transportation to raise citizens’ awareness of the climate crisis and encourage participation in daily life.

To move toward a carbon-neutral society by 2050, Busan City has established the ‘Busan Metropolitan City 2030 Greenhouse Gas Reduction Roadmap’ and plans to fully implement the Phase 1 plan starting this year.
