Hanjin Co., Ltd. Provides On-site Health Checkups for 10,000 Parcel Delivery Workers

Health Checkup Bus Tours 100 Terminals... Over 60 Items Inspected

Hanjin Co., Ltd. Provides On-site Health Checkups for 10,000 Parcel Delivery Workers

[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Hanjin Co., Ltd. will conduct on-site health checkups for about 10,000 delivery workers. On the 13th, Hanjin announced that it will carry out on-site health checkups for approximately 10,000 related workers, including delivery drivers, trunk line drivers, and branch managers, by April.

This on-site checkup is part of Hanjin's measures to prevent overwork among delivery drivers, announced last October. Hanjin will bear an annual cost of 450 million KRW to support one health checkup per person per year, covering more than 60 items such as cerebrovascular and cardiovascular examinations, blood tests, lipid metabolism, hypertension, liver function, and arthritis tests.

Considering the difficulty for delivery drivers to visit hospitals due to their work conditions, the checkup bus will sequentially visit 100 Hanjin delivery terminals nationwide until April. This month, about 1,000 delivery drivers working in Seoul and some areas of Gyeonggi Province will undergo checkups. Hanjin plans to ensure that all delivery drivers nationwide can receive regular health checkups once a year to protect their health.

Meanwhile, Hanjin stopped late-night deliveries after 10 p.m. last year as part of its overwork prevention measures. Dedicated personnel have been assigned at headquarters and branches, and if cases of late-night deliveries are confirmed, the responsible persons are interviewed and the delivery areas within branches are adjusted accordingly. Additionally, 200 vehicles have been added so far in regions where late-night deliveries occur due to excessive volume.

Furthermore, sorting support personnel have been gradually deployed since last November, considering workplace conditions. Currently, 300 personnel have been assigned to terminals with a high year-on-year increase in volume, and a total of 1,000 personnel will be deployed by March.

Along with this, the introduction of automation equipment at sub-terminals is also underway. Hanjin plans to invest 400 billion KRW by 2023 to build the Daejeon Mega Hub Terminal and introduce automation equipment. Hanjin stated, "We are making every effort to implement overwork prevention measures, including health protection for delivery drivers."
