Dementia Prevention Exercise (70%) Tops the List...

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seocho-gu (Mayor Eunhee Cho) has successfully completed a dementia prevention service demand survey targeting 5,640 Seocho-gu residents aged 60 (born in 1960) who are preparing for a healthy and vibrant second chapter of life.

The district conducted the survey from July 20 to September 13, 2020, covering knowledge about dementia, attitudes, participation in dementia prevention activities, and desired future dementia prevention activities. The survey actively targeted 5,640 residents aged 60, achieving a high participation rate of 75.3% (4,246 people) and a response rate of 33.1% (1,869 people).

Due to the impact of social distancing, the original plan for a full visit survey was changed. An online survey using mobile QR codes and website links was conducted, along with in-person visits adhering to social distancing and quarantine guidelines for residents who had difficulty participating online.

The survey results showed that ▲59.3% (1,111 people) of respondents currently have a job ▲30.2% reported having a family history of dementia ▲Among respondents with chronic diseases, 30.2% (564 people) are currently receiving treatment ▲The average score on the dementia awareness survey was 8.28 out of 12 ▲69.4% (1,297 people) preferred ‘exercise’ as a future dementia prevention activity ▲41.5% (777 people) preferred ‘text messages’ as the medium for dementia prevention information.

Based on this dementia prevention service demand survey, the district produces dementia prevention management information card news and regularly sends text messages to help residents practice dementia prevention activities in daily life. The survey results will also be distributed to all autonomous districts in Seoul to be utilized in various dementia prevention projects.

Mayor Eunhee Cho stated, “We deeply thank the residents who participated in the survey, and based on the results, we will make further efforts to establish a culture of dementia prevention where daily dementia prevention activities become habitual.”
